The Schooner Appledore completed an 18-month voyage that involved over 15 diverse crew/passengers. The ship departed Portsmouth, New Hampshire on November 11, 1978 and completed this first expedition on May 17, 1980. The ship covered over 27,000 miles, and visited 62 ports of call. The longest stretch off shore without making landfall lasted 23 days, The trip is covered in detail in the book, Dreams of Natural Places, A New England Schooner Odyssey, by Herbert Smith.

The boat was designed specifically for this type adventure, and she continues to grace the seas with her sense of comfort with the four winds.
